Göteborg filmfest to host Kiarostami’s ‘24 Frames’

Late Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami’s ‘24 Frames’ is slated to be screened at the Göteborg Film Festival in Sweden.

The 41st edition of the festival has planned to pay tribute to Iran’s legendary director, Kiarostami, in the Masters section.

Kiarostami’s ‘24 Frames’ is a response to the paintings and photographs that inspired him, prompted by the desire to hold the frame steady so as to watch each image come to life, each drama play on.

The veteran Iranian filmmaker passed away on July 4, 2016, following a heart attack at the age of 76.

He is mostly known as a screenwriter, film editor, art director and producer as well as a poet, photographer, painter, illustrator, and graphic designer.

Throughout his career, Kiarostami has won many awards, including the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Festival in 1997 for his film ‘Taste of Cherry’.

Göteborg Film Festival is the largest film festival in the Nordic countries. Each year the festival’s program group travels around the world to track down choice films to bring them back to Göteborg.

These films are then presented during the ten-day festival at the end of January, creating a great banquet serving audiences with nearly 450 films from some 80 countries.

The 41st edition of the event is to be held on January 26- February 5, 2018.
